What happens when science interfaces with design?
This project explores the intersection of typically isolated programs and the resulting interaction between visitors and research fellows, exhibitions and lab spaces. New volumetric configurations and programmatic opportunities are created when the boundaries of spaces holding discrete functions overlap. Circulation exists in excess to provide choice to visitors, but ultimately the building controls the inhabitant, drawing him back toward the focal areas of activity. The flow through the building can be likened to the pendulum of a clock, constantly oscillating from side to side but always coming to rest in the center.
