Outdoor Amphitheater
Mark Cavagnero Associates Architects
Role: Project Architect
2012-ongoing
How can an outdoor amphitheater complement its natural setting and create an encompassing environment for its patrons?
The pavilion’s heavy concrete walls contrast with the lightness of the canopy and ground the pavilion in the landscape, while also providing a noise buffer from the surrounding roads. The venue’s flexible design makes it suitable for a variety of performances. The intimacy of the table seating at the terraces is designed to suit orchestra and dance, while the expansive, gently-sloping lawn allows for increased capacity for rock concerts. To stay within a tight budget, all architectural elements also serve structural and acoustical functions.
As project architect, responsibilities include production of all drawings, renderings and 3d models, and coordination with acoustical, theatrical, structural, landscape, MEP, and civil consultants.
