When can a beam be more than structural?
Drawing inspiration from the Catalan architect Miguel Fisac’s light diffusing beam sections, this project seeks to invent a parametrically adaptable beam profile that can be shaped to optimize various structural and lighting needs. Whereas Fisac’s beams are uni-directional, the proposed system functions multi-dimensionally. It is structurally adaptive to resist moment and torque brought about by curved conditions. The system is further optimized for natural light levels and solar orientation.
